Merz Trio delves into Songs of Home, a program rich with the joy of place and the nostalgia of places lost. Each piece explores a specific setting held dear by each of the composers represented: from Josephine Baker's Paris to the American pastoral of Chris Rogerson, to a Haydn Trio dedicated to his fellow German expatriate in London, Teresa Jansen. The Brahms Trio offers a particularly special kind of homecoming, written during a period of domestic bliss spent with the Schumanns in Dusseldorf, but also signifying a personal return to an earlier self, Brahms having famously revised the Trio almost forty years after it was originally composed.
