NYC: Tuesday Matinees at the Kaufman Music Center

  • Merkin Concert Hall, Kaufman Music Center 129 W 67th St New York, NY, 10023 United States (map)

Program — Ink Spills, featuring: Scotto/Baker: Sous les ponts de Paris (arr. Merz Trio) | Rameau: La Cupis; La Marais (arr. Merz Trio) | Lili Boulanger: D’un vieux jardin (arr. Merz Trio) | Fauré: Piano Trio in D minor, Op. 120 | Lee Dionne: Zortziko | Mel Bonis: Matin (arr. Merz Trio) | Nadia Boulanger: Heures Ternes (arr. Merz Trio) | Ravel: Piano Trio in A minor

Inspired by Merz Trio's debut album "INK,” “Ink Spills” offers a unique and personal account of Ravel's Piano Trio, a work he finished penning in Paris, 1914, at a time of immense catastrophe and change for Europe and the world. The program seeks to illuminate the years surrounding the work’s composition, interweaving the Ravel movements with pieces Ravel himself would have known and heard. Throughout the concert, Merz Trio's members will contribute readings of poetry and prose that further speak to the music and the era.
